Why do people still play Halo 1?

Video Games – What makes Halo's multiplayer so popular and enduring? Ever since Halo debuted as a launch title for the Xbox in 2001, the series has consistently been the most popular multiplayer title in the first-person shooter genre.

I still think Duke 3d was one of the best for multiplayer. Common, freeze your enemies and then shoot them into icy shards? Setup traps with laser tripbombs and and pipe bombs for a momentary holocaust? Shrink a bunch of opponents and then run up and step on them? Use your holographic gizrig to make your friends give away their location? Shoot rockets into teleporters and watch them blow your buds to smitherines on the surveillance cameras? Jet packs to launch assults from the sky?

Sure, Duke3d didn't have "The Ghost" but for a mid 90s game, that raised the bar and I have not seen that sort of multiplayer combat since. Just my 2cents.

btw. is Halo the only thing keeping Microsoft going?
